Vancouver Island Branch December 2009, Newsletter
Treasurer Stephen Homans, Immediate Past-President Dagmar Haupthoff, President Hans Haupthoff, Secretary Lavinia Greenwood, Membership Chair Jock Halliday
Treasurer Stephen Homans, Consul General of Malaysia Mohammad H. Bal,Hans & Dagmar Haupthoff, Vice President of Tourism Abdul Hadi From the Presidents Desk Our membership is still declining, we have not been able to attract enough new members and require everyone to try to help. With the insufficient participation at our luncheons, speakers are no longer viable. We are proposing to hold discussions on a chosen subject of the Commonwealth Conversations and actively participate on the international discussions. Members with access to the web will inform members wthout what is taking place so everyone can participate. The Commonwealth of Nations needs to have an important role in the future of the world and members should let their Mp's know how they want them to represent their views. Anyone not having paid their dues is reminded at the end of December they will not be "In good standing". We have mailed out the booklets and pamphlets, to date we had one request for electronic copies which we supplied. Rwanda has become the 54th member of the Commonwealth. Fiji is still suspendet. In Memoriam We lost our staunch supporter and friend Georgina Watchorn-Steele on October 16th, 2009. And our Life member Dr. Trevor Jones, at the age of 101. We will miss them dearly.
