Branch Activities
General

The Vancouver Island Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society meets for luncheon on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Monthly luncheon speaker

We meet for luncheon at 11:30am for 12 noon, on the third Thursday of the month.

Program

For the last many years the attendance at regular monthly luncheons has exceeded half the number of members.

The program throughout the year is interesting and varied with local, provincial, Canadian, Commonwealth and global topics.

Commonwealth Day

The Vancouver Island Branch celebrates Commonwealth Day the second Monday in March with a luncheon. In attendance are members of the branch, guests and representatives of associated organizations. The tables are decorated with miniature flags of the Commonwealth countries while a large Commonwealth flag is prominently displayed at the head table.

The luncheon speaker His/Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. His/Her Honour also reads the Queens Commonwealth Day Message.

The Way Ahead

The membership year is from September to August. The branch encourages new members with new ideas and energy. The involvement of youth is welcomed. We're informing students of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Student Commonwealth Conference

The branch has been sponsoring a Student Commonwealth Conference for Vancouver Island high schools since the early 1980s. The conference is held in the latter part of February and prize winners attend the National Student Commonwealth Forum in Ottawa.

Branch Newsletter

We have a new and refreshing format. Copies are sent to associated organizations in Victoria and to national and international Royal Commonwealth Society branches and individuals. The use of newsletters to keep the members informed and the exchange of newsletters with other organizations and branches is very beneficial.

Associated Victoria Area Organizations

There are some ten local area organizations that are considered associated.
